APhA Midyear regional meeting
- several educational programs are available at the meetings
- There is information about career paths in pharmacy
- legislative workshops

- SPIN (student political information network)
- keeps student involved in politics that concern pharmacy
- forum for the student's voice to be heard
- legislative day: go to state legislature for direct contact with
senators and congress

NCAP annual meeting
- New president: Davy Waget
- Talk with Richard Burr (district 5)
- Drug reimportation - remove liability from pharmacists
- Medicare Drug Benefit: make CPP's providers
- Standard form for low income assistance for medication form
pharmaceutical companies
- PBM's: get them to be more transparent so that savings are passed on
to the patient
- Medicare modernization act has cut funding to oncology research
- wants to get the AWP up to retail price
Blood Pressure Screenings were successful; Wingate was happy to see pharmacy
students active at a school wide event
Blood Drive - received 45 sign-ups; gave away 2 gift certificates to
O'Charley's
New Business:
CPFI: liaison - Hollie Cole
- operation Christmas child
- fill a box up with toys (must be wrapped separately on top and bottom)
- age group and sex is optional
- bring this back to school to give to Samaritan's purse
- place label in box and a note with you name so we can assign service
credit
- collection dates: 11/15 - 11/19
- can team up 2-3 people per box
- box goes over seas - not to local children
- need $5 for shipping - can find sponsor for this
Blood Drive - Maria
- Football game was successful
- need one P1 and one P2 to sit through lunch and take appointments (service
credit available)
- also need 2 students Friday, 11/12/04 to sit in DPC for appointments
between 11 and 1 pm
- meeting with the red cross this week to discuss shifts
- pharmacy students will have to provide the canteen (sign-up sheet for what
you would like to bring will be in the back of the P2 classroom)
Health Quest: liaison Jake Kimsey
- help fill prescriptions on Tuesday and Thursday 8-10 am
- Pharmacy is open until 5pm but pharmacist is only there until 1pm
- times may expand as volunteers become trained
- may implement projects directly with patients
- Hours will be recorded at healthquest
- Interest sign-up sheet will be in the back of the P2 classroom
- Schedule will be designed from this
- also need help at healthquest to keep patient paperwork up to date
More Service Opportunities
- educational program
- giving short presentations to 20-30 year old women on the importance
of taking a multivitamin and folic acid during child bearing years
- this will take place at health department
- contact Dr. Jolly
Future officers and liaisons of PILLS
- email Jenna if interested in running for an office or as liaison for
organization
- please do this before next meeting to set up a small meeting
As we design this program - there will be organizational problems: please try
to provide suggestions and be part of the solution rather than simply complain
and add to the problem
