Dean's Message

Dr. Robert B. Supernaw

Thank you for taking the time to visit the web-site of Wingate University School of Pharmacy. Countless hours have gone into planning this school - its facilities, its curriculum, its pharmacy practice partnerships and its faculty resource. And, I am sure you will agree, after carefully reviewing the program of pharmacy education at Wingate University, it is clearly one of the most progressive and student-focused in the country.

The faculty and staff of Wingate University believe in the primacy of our teaching mission. While we place the patient at the center of our health care equation, we place the student at the center of our academic mission. All classes, case studies, discussions and laboratory sessions are taught by faculty, not graduate students. And, all classes are supported fully with web-notes in advance of each session. The student is able to listen to lectures and participate fully in discussions because the notes are provided, rather than penned by the students as the sessions unfold.

Wingate University's commitment to building the confidence of its students is second to none among schools of pharmacy. This confidence is built through extensive learning and practice opportunities which focus on communication skills, drug order processing, pharmacotherapy, business management, disease management, pharmaceutical care and professional ethics and professional decision making.

The pharmacy practice component comprises a greater percentage of the curriculum than that of any other school in the US. Patient care is practiced in each year of the program. Clinical rotations in community practice, long-term care practice, ambulatory clinic practice, and acute care practice are all integral, required experiences within the curriculum. Additionally, students are allowed to elect special rotations to build special clinical or management skills.

Again, thank you for taking a look at us. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Wingate University School of Pharmacy, I cordially invite you to visit our campus and discuss your future at any time.

Dr. Robert B. Supernaw
Dean and Professor of Pharmacy
