2009-2010 Prepharmacy Requirements


Prepharmacy requirements may be taken at Wingate University or any accredited institution in the United States. The requisite course work necessary to qualify a prospective student for admission consideration is as follows.

General Chemistry (with lab, for science majors) 2 semesters 8 credits total
Organic Chemistry (with lab, for science majors) 2 semesters 8 credits total
Biology (with lab, for science majors) 1 semesters 4 credits
Anatomy & Physiology (with lab) 1 semester 4 credits
General Microbiology (with lab) 1 semester 4 credits
Physics 1 semester 4 credits
Calculus 1 semester 3-4 credits
Statistics 1 semester 3 credits
Public Speaking/Interpersonal Communications 1 semester 3 credits
English Composition and Literature 2 semesters 6 credits
Economics 1 semester 3 credits
Humanities/Social Sciences*   9 credits
Other   3 credits
TOTAL MINIMUM CREDITS (Semester Credit Hours)   62-63 credits

* Highly desirable but not mandated: Psychology, Sociology, Foreign Language, and Philosophy. All prepharmacy requirements must be completed by the end of spring semester of the year in which pharmacy school enrollment is requested. Admission decisions will be made upon consideration of the course work completed by December 31 of the year prior to prospective matriculation. It is acknowledged that several requirements may be in-progress during the spring semester prior to matriculation into the School of Pharmacy. The grades for in-progress courses will not be taken into account in determination of prepharmacy grade point averages.

The required prepharmacy curriculum may be completed at accredited schools other than Wingate University. Questions regarding transfer credits and course equivalents should be directed to the office of Admissions at (704) 233-8331.
